Engaging Parents in the Education Community
Fiscal Prudence Within the District
These are hard financial times and projected budgetary numbers suggest that next few years will be very difficult. We are looking at limited resources and population growth. Our building have a lot of maintenance needs, but we have to be careful about distinguishing between needs and wants and prioritize.
It's not enough to understand the budget and know where money is needed and where it is going; we must also look carefully at the budget with a critical eye for efficiency and explore ways to reduce costs while we increase the quality of the education our children are getting.
I believe that investing in education is important. However, we need to make sure that we have exhausted all ideas and possibilities at improving our schools with the resources we have before asking for more.
Providing Options
School choice is good for everyone. Alternative, correspondence, home-schooling, vocational paths and charter schools, offer a path to skills and self-sufficiency that meet the diverse needs of our stude nts and our community. I have been a consistent and vocal supporter of school choice throughout my tenure on the school board.
Children learn in different ways. It makes sense to offer choices for students and their parents, so that each child can achieve his or her own potential.
Safer Schools & Healthy Communities
Everyone has heard horror stories about public schools throghout the nation. I promoted a district-wide policy to address issues pertaining to registered sex offenders in our schools and have supported policy changes regarding bullying and cyberbullying. Our children deserve a safe and healthy environment to learn.
